Course Description

Institute of Leadership and Management - Award in Team Leading - Level 2

Suitable for new and exisiting supervisors and team leaders. Builds competence and confidence in core management skills, ensuring improved performance for participants and their teams. Also an excellent refresher for more experienced supervisors and team leaders. This course leads to an accredited qualification.

Day 1 - Introduction + The Role of the Team Leader - Monday 7th November 2011

• Welcome & introductions
• Roles, functions and responsibilities of the team leader
• Making the transition from friend to supervisor
• Seeking and dealing with feedback
• Identifying the limits of your responsibility
• The team leader's role in relation to organisational policies and procedures
• Setting SMART objectives

Day 2 - Communication Skills - Monday 21st November 2011

• Communication modes and methods, the pro's and con's
• Accuracy, brevity and clarity and the importance of record keeping
• Verbal and non-vebal communication
• Team briefing skills
• Communications assessment

Day 3 - Managing People - Monday 5th December 2011

• Overview of current legislation relevant to team leaders including duty of care, disipline, grievance and diversity
• Clarifying roles and expectations
• Giving and recieving feedback
• Appraising others
• Reflective Review tutorial

Day 4 - Leading and Motivating the Team - Monday 19th December 2011

• Manager or leader or both?
• Understanding management styles, when to use them and potential impacts
• Getting the best from your team
• Motivational drivers in self and others
• Delegating and allocating work
• Leadership assessment
