Chamber Chief Set For Dubai Trade Mission

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive George Cowcher is set to join a delegation of UK business leaders on a trade mission to Dubai later this month.

The aim of the visit is to raise the profile of the British business sector in the United Arab Emirates, help local firms develop trading links with companies in Dubai and forge a strong partnership between the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber and its counterpart in the Emirate state.

During the three-day trip, the delegation will visit the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the British Embassy UKTI, the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Knowledge Village and Media City.

The mission is sponsored by the Government of Dubai, with the key aim of encouraging investment into region. After the mission, the Chamber's international trade department will assist local companies in developing long-lasting business relationships and market contacts through the high-level introductions made in Dubai.

Mr Cowcher said: "Dubai is an important business hub for the Middle East and acts as a gateway into the Emirates. Direct flights from local airports to and from Dubai make it easily accessible to firms in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, offering huge opportunities for trading.

"The state's economic progress in recent years has made it one of the top countries for conducting export and import business and its strong economy and potential for further growth make it an area of particular interest for our members.

"This visit will give pave the way for member businesses to make valuable business contacts, with the ultimate aim of opening up opportunities to tender for some of the potentially lucrative contracts which are on offer as Dubai moves away from an oil-based economy towards its ambitious development as a top tourism and industry destination.

"The Chamber hopes to lay the groundwork for members, which will help to open up new export markets and access new customers in this important international trading region."
