More than 40 businesses from across north Derbyshire attended a free breakfast seminar aimed at helping firms win more contracts by shedding light on complex procurement processes.
The event was organised by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce and led by Bob Truswell, Head of Procurement for Chesterfield, Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. Those attended learned smart techniques of tendering, enabling more local companies to bid for work.
It was put together by the Chesterfield Area Regeneration Team's Local Strategic Partnership to improve access to information and help businesses prosper as the economy climbs out of recession. It aimed to equip firms with the skills to navigate local authority structures to learn more about local procurement opportunities.
Following the success of the event, a second seminar takes place at the Dunston Innovation Centre in Chesterfield between 8.30am and 10am on 23 March.
George Cowcher, chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber, said: "The first free procurement seminar was a huge success and the Chamber was delighted to see so many firms taking part and learning some of the techniques which will empower them to bid for contracts with confidence.
"We are hoping to see a similar amount of firms taking part in the next seminar - the agenda will be broadly the same, but it will also have a European focus, given Chamber's efforts to encourage local firms to take competitive advantage of the weaker pound during the current trading conditions."
