National win for ncn student chef

Daniel Callieu, New College Nottingham Professional Chefs Diploma student, was awarded a silver medal in the ‘City & Guilds 7100 Challenge’ at the national catering industry exhibition ‘Hotelympia’ on 2 March.

After winning a College competition, Daniel went on to compete against ten student chefs from across the country in an open theatre in front of high-profile industry judges, cooking the classical fish dish 'Sole Marguery’.

He said: "I was under a lot of pressure during the competition but I really enjoyed it. My lecturers really helped me prepare for the challenge and I'm confident that winning a medal will help in my future career."

Sacha McCarthy, ncn Head of School, added: “The standard was extremely high in the competition but Daniel was professional throughout, showing talent and dedication.”
