Recognition Express Launch ‘Kids Slow Down’ Competition

Recognition Express Nottingham local specialists in promotional gifts & personalised clothing, is supporting this year’s Road Safety Week campaign (22-28 November) by running a ‘Design a Banner’ competition amongst local primary schools across Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire.

This follows on from the success of its Design a Mug competition last year, which attracted over 800 entries. In partnership with Brake, the national road safety charity, Des Rennell, of Recognition Express is inviting pupils aged between 3-13 to design a banner to display outside their school to help slow down traffic to 20 mph. The winning school will receive a banner of the winning design plus 300 high-visibility drawstring bags. The winning designer will receive their very own personalised Road Safety Week high-vis vest.

Des said: “Last year’s competition was so popular with local school children and the standard of entries was fantastic, so I’m hoping that we’ll have the same kind of response this year. It’s tragic to think that every day in this country 8 children are killed or seriously injured, whilst on foot or cycling. We want to do all we can to raise awareness and this seems like a good way to get the kids involved.”

Schools should already have received their Road Safety Week 2010 packs from Brake with full details about how to enter the competition. Full details of how to enter the competition can also be found at

Katie Shephard, acting general manager, Brake says: “Speed is the number one killer on our roads. In communities, traffic must travel at no faster than 20mph and slower outside schools and homes, to give children a fighting chance. Road Safety Week is a fantastic opportunity to help raise awareness of this vital issue. Brake is delighted that Recognition Express Nottingham have chosen to support us for the second year running and are demonstrating an ongoing commitment to helping us spread road safety messages to school children.”
