Lobbying Priorities for 2009

LOBBYING PRIORITIES FOR 2009

Assisting businesses in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire cope with the current economic storm will be the Chamber's highest priority through the year.  This will involve:-

  • Lobbying Government at all levels and the Bank of England to adopt policies and fiscal measures to support business.
  • Assist member companies to find new markets and suppliers including through public sector procurement channels and through international markets overseas.
  • Collect factual evidence about the state of economic activity to inform all decision makers.
  • Promote assistance to businesses through productivity initiatives, skills development and infrastructure improvement.
  • Resisting local and national initiatives that place additional and often unfair burdens on business such as Supplementary Business Rates, EU Working Time Directive and Workplace Parking Levy schemes.

The Chamber will continue its existing campaign work:-

  • To simplify business support
  • To ensure assistance with skills is "business led"
  • To protect businesses from becoming victims of crime
  • To ensure public expenditure on economic development in the two counties is shaped by business
  • To secure improvements in transport infrastructure
  • To roll back the burden of business administration which costs business in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire £2 bn per year.
