Carnet

Carnet

An ATA Carnet is an International Customs Document - and as such is a legal document that allows users to take goods out of the country/EC with the sole proviso that all the goods come back - the validity for doing this is a year from date of issue.

The goods that can be taken fall into three category headings i.e. Commercial Samples, goods destined for International Trade Fairs or Exhibitions, or Professional Equipment.

  • Commercial samples (The ATA Carnet is a commercial document, and as such values shown must reflect the current retail value in the UK).
  • Goods for presentation or use at trade fairs, shows, exhibitions or similar events.
  • Professional equipment (which is solely for use by, or under the personal supervision of the holder or his nominated representative).

The main point for having an ATA carnet is that it does alleviate users from paying duties and taxes abroad as well as and duties they would incur on coming back into the EC. The main reason being that without such a document for temporary export - users could pay duties abroad without any recourse to claim these charges back.

Carnets are only available at our Nottingham office. For more information please contact Russell Whillis on 0115 957 8757 or email russell.whillis@dncc.co.uk.
