Chesterfield charity gets a little Continental help

Association for Real Change (ARC), a Chesterfield charity that offers support for organisations providing services for individuals with learning disabilities, has been benefiting from a little support themselves - from abroad.

Based in Marsden Street, ARC lobbies for the rights of people with a learning disability, and offers information, advice and training to organisations providing services for them; but it would like to spread word about its work to a wider audience.

To their aid has come Elodie Fragne, a French student studying for her Master's Degree in International Business and Modern Languages at the University of Burgundy; and as Elodie returns to France, they now have Sabine Postlmayr, an Austrian graduate in marketing and management, who has been helping with the charity's marketing strategy.

ARC Training Officer Shirley Potter said: "Before Elodie and Sabine came, we did not have marketing strategy in place. Elodie has helped develop a marketing strategy for the UK which Sabine will now assist in implementing.

"They are helping ARC raise its profile through logging information about social care events and networks; increasing ARC's membership and promoting projects and training. Elodie has helped update our membership database and also created a projects database along with making a presentation to staff to raise their awareness about all the work that ARC does. "

Sabine will now continue to develop the work that Elodie began and help the organisation in marketing its products and services across the UK."

Elodie and Sabine were placed at ARC by the International Student Placement Office (ISPO) operated Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber. They do not receive a wage but their employer pays for their accommodation and travel to work.

ISPO coordinator Ben Littler said: "More Chesterfield organisations could get real help using the ISPO service. The team actively seeks companies in the UK, to host an international student placement and then advertises the placements on our website and to universities throughout Europe.

"We guarantee high quality placements which are inexpensive, and in return students are able to use their skills and gain valuable international working experience."
