New College Nottingham (ncn) and Basford Children's Centre in Nottingham held a special event on Tuesday 15 December at a local community centre to launch a new ‘Young Mums, Dads and Carers Group’.
Starting in January 2010, the group aims to give young parents and carers the confidence to consider returning to education, as well as teaching them practical parenting skills such as cooking for young children and first aid. It will also offer career advice taster sessions in areas such as skills for life, interior design and photography.
Heather Ridgway, ncn Head of School, explained: “The Young Mums, Dads and Carers Group has been set up to inspire, inform and support young parents and carers who may otherwise not continue with their education, and we are pleased to be working in conjunction with Basford Children’s Centre staff to deliver the programme.
Councillor David Mellen, Nottingham City Council Portfolio Holder for Children’s Centres, said: “It’s great to see partners continuing the drive to raise aspirations in the city and make a real difference to young people’s lives.”
