Firm launches specialist legal team to help young businesses

The dedicated hlw Young Business Team comprises of a series of specialists brought together to help guide entrepreneurs through the legal minefield of setting up and growing a business.

As well as collating a wealth of information on legal requirements young business owners may need to take into consideration, hlw is also taking the unusual step of providing a fixed price list for some of its key services, so there are no unwelcome surprises.

As part of the service, hlw has created a helpful legal guide to starting up and developing a business, which includes information on how to set up companies and partnerships, registering intellectual property, obtaining premises, employment pitfalls and responsibilities in relation to health and safety.

Ron Whitlam, senior partner at hlw, commented: "Believe it or not, the primary motivation for developing this specialist service is not to bill as much as possible; we're much more interested in building long term partnerships with businesses as they grow. We understand the first couple of years of a business start-up can be extremely daunting and it's easy to fall foul of legislation. There are a lot of consultants and agencies offering general advice to new businesses, but the law is one area where people really need to bring in the right expertise to make sure they get everything in order.

"We want to make things as simple and clear cut as possible for business owners so they can spend their time doing what they do best and growing their organisation. We'll be actively encouraging clients to pick up the phone on any legal query, no matter how small, without them worrying that the clock is ticking."

Anyone interested in the service can attend a free initial meeting with a member of the team, and new clients can benefit from a range of free, additional guides on some more of the legal issues facing young businesses. A regular e-lert will help keep clients up to speed on any changing legislation or other topical legal information, and regular seminars will examine some of these legal issues in more detail whilst providing a crucial networking opportunity for developing businesses.

hlw also have a raft of business partners in other professional services, including accountancy, finance, taxation and insurance, which they can put organisations in touch with if required.
