Local Swimming Hero Goes For Gold At Business Awards Derbyshire

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce is delighted to confirm that local Commonwealth double gold medallist swimmer Ross Davenport will be the guest speaker at this year's Business Awards Derbyshire ceremony.

Ross, who has set his sights on competing for Team GB at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, is one of the county's best known sporting personalities following his haul of two golds and a silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

The Belper-born swimmer has twice competed at the Olympics in the past - at Athens in 2004 and Bejing in 2008, as well as representing his country at four world championships.

George Cowcher, Chief Executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber, said: "We are delighted to welcome Ross as key note speaker at this year's Business Awards Derbyshire.

"Ross is a well-known local sportsman who, through hard work, commitment and determination has gone on to achieve some remarkable things, which makes him a perfect fit for the awards which are all about celebrating the achievements of Derbyshire businesses."

Ross Davenport added: "I'm pleased to be supporting this year's Business Awards Derbyshire and look forward to meeting all the finalists at the event.

"The people of Belper and Derbyshire have been so supportive of my swimming career over the last few years and attending events like this give me the chance to give something back to everyone that has supported me."

Business Awards Derbyshire 2010 takes place at the Roundhouse in Derby on Friday 26 February 2010.

It is organised jointly by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber and the Derby Telegraph. The seven individual awards are sponsored by the International Trade Forum, University of Derby Corporate, Business Link, Rolls Royce, Digital Exchange, Toyota and the East Midlands Development Agency.
