Event Description

Following a Question Time-style format, this event is designed to allow businesses in North Derbyshire to challenge the prospective political candidates on practical issues affecting trading conditions in the run-up to the General Election.

These will be Carolyn Abbott (Conservative, Chesterfield), Paul Holmes (Lib Dem, Chesterfield) and Toby Perkins (Labour, Chesterfield).

Questions are welcome to be submitted to the Chamber in advance, so that the candidates may give their differing perspectives on topical issues.

Following the recent Budget and incoming responses to the recent Quarterly Economic Survey, a broad-ranging agenda is likely to touch the following issues:

Support for SMEs and local business; changes in funding regimes; Improving the transport infrastructure;  promoting public procurement opportunities; vibrant town centres v incoming supermarkets; Investment in manufacturing; kick-starting Markham Vale/J29A; reduction of red tape & bureaucracy; renewable energy sources; addressing the national debt and its impact on the local economy.

A number of local, regional and national issues will be addressed in what is bound to be a lively event.
