Event Description

Following a Question Time-style format, this event is designed to allow business to challenge the prospective political candidates in the marginal constituency of Nottingham South on practical issues affecting trading conditions in the run-up to the General Election.

The three new candidates will be Rowena Holland (Conservative), Lilian Greenwood (Labour) and Tony Sutton (LibDem).

Questions are welcome to be submitted to the Chamber in advance, so that the candidates may give their differing perspectives on topical issues.

As this is one of the seats that could determine the outcome of the General Election, the event is likely to attract publicity, and is an opportunity to raise issues such as the workplace parking levy, A453 widening, rail connectivity, business taxation, revisions in employment law, and the next government's commitment toward helping business create the jobs and growth needed to drive the economic recovery.

The Chamber's membership reports that firms need more certainty on aspects such as interest-rates, credit-ratings and the strength of sterling against other currencies. They would also like to see the simplification and clarification of skills, training and qualifications when it comes to making more informed decisions concerning future employees and the workforce.

With the Budget coming up, there is also likely to be discussion about future public expenditure and taxation measures to address the budget deficit.
