The achievements of the top 50 Construction students/trainees from New College Nottingham (ncn) were celebrated on 10 June at the College’s annual Construction Awards held at Notts County Football Club.
Each of the awardees received a certificate, trophy and industry sponsored prize. The increasing number of women entering the construction industry was well represented, with four female students awarded for outstanding achievement and high standards of practical skills: Rachael Morris, The F R Gwynn Memorial Prize for Painting and Decorating; Tina Handley, The East Midlands Ceramics Award; Sherene Gallagher, Diploma Level 1 Plastering Award; and Samantha Middleton, The Derwent Cup for Joinery.
Stephen Chapple, 22 from Wakefield, received the Directors Award for Endeavour for his tremendous commitment to the course and maintaining an excellent standard of work despite being diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year. He commented: “Although I’ve been through a difficult time recently, my job and ncn course helped me to focus on something other than the illness. I am thrilled to have been presented with the award.”
