Chamber Launches Awards For Enterprising Women

This year's search for the county's best business women gets underway on 9 September 2010 with the launch of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce's Enterprising Women's Excellence Awards.

Hilary Devey, Chief Executive of the UK's top palletised freight distributors Pall-EX, is the guest speaker at the launch of the awards at Risley Hall Hotel.

The awards aim to recognise and reward the women in business who have  excelled in their field of expertise over the last 12 months. There are many women in business from a variety of backgrounds, who juggle family life with and successful careers and the awards are aimed at celebrating their achievements. The winners will be presented with their awards at a glitzy dinner at Chatsworth House on 17 November.

A host of local firms and organisations, including University of Derby Corporate, Accident Aftercare Fleet Ltd, Business Link, Rothera Dowson, Coutts and Co, Hullabaloo Visual Communications Ltd and Quadrant Visual Solutions Ltd have been lined up as sponsors.

The categories for this year's awards are as follows:

  • Enterprising Business Woman of the Year - For women who run their own business or are in a senior executive role and can demonstrate a clear vision for their overall success.
  • Community Champion Award - For women who are actively involved in social enterprises or charitable organisations.
  • Breakthrough Business of the Year -For new businesses which have been trading for less than three years and have already established a proven track record of success.

Jean Mountain, Chair of the Chamber's Enterprising Women group, said: "There are some very talented and hard-working businesswomen in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire who play a massive part in the success of their business but are often not recognised for their hard work and determination. These awards are all about acknowledging and celebrating those achievements.

"These enterprising women make an important contribution to the local economy and their success stories will hopefully inspire many other women to pursue their business dreams, which is why I would encourage as many people as possible to send in nominations for this year's awards."
