Enterprising Women

Enterprising WomenAccording to the Department for Business Innovation & Skills 2009, there are roughly 680,000 majority women owned businesses in the UK generating around £45 billion to Gross Value Added and in a survey carried out by everywoman and NatWest, women showed greater entrepreneurial drive than men.

When women represent 30% of the board of directors the profitability increases threefold (women executives in the UK, Gavurin Intelligence, Feb 2008) but according to the commission for equality and human rights, at the current rate of progress,  it will be a further 60  years before women in the UK will achieve parity on company boards.

So when you take into account that female entrepreneurs predominately juggle the roles of wife, mother, secretary and business owner pretty much single handedly, how do they manage to keep all the balls in the air and how do they keep themselves going when they feel in danger of dropping a few?

Through a mix of Inspiring speakers, informal networking opportunities and a glass of wine or two, we hope that our series of Enterprising Women events will encourage other local business women and help you build a strong network of successful women with fantastic knowledge to share.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber hold an Enterprising Women event monthly across both counties that attract between 40 - 120 women to each event. To see what's coming up, see the events section and enter Enterprising Women into the search box.
