Derbyshire Members Council

Derbyshire Members' Council consists of a broad range of businesses from across the county. It is a strategic body that will interface with member businesses on issues of the day and oversee the work of the Chamber's forums to help to determine the focus of its lobbying activities.

The Council meets on a bi-monthly basis, rotating its meetings across its membership at venues around the county. Immediate and ongoing concerns have been identified with business crime issues that need to be addressed, together with the difficulties employers are experiencing in matching jobs to suitable applicants - evidenced by a distinct skills shortfall across Derbyshire.

Given the economic situation, the change-in-government, and the proposals to cut-back on expenditure and raise taxation to address the budget deficit, it is vitally-important that you provide your views regarding your lobbying priorities so that the Chamber can develop campaigns to address the issues that affect your business the most

Much of this reflects the initial findings of the Chamber's Quarterly Economic Survey, which acts as a barometer for changing business conditions and helps to ascertain the issues that require proactive campaigning.

The fieldwork for the latest survey is currently underway and, in addition to the usual economic and business performance indicators, we are seeking members' views on:-

Which business support services you would most like to see protected

Any impacts a potential rise in VAT may have

 Small Business Rate Relief

The new Government has indicated that it will partially reverse the previous administration's announcement in the budget on 22 June, by changing the thresholds at which employers pay the increase. However, this Chamber believes the government could go one step further by scrapping the planned increase altogether.
